Focus on the Collection: Arthur Dove
May 22 - July 5, 2009
Sam Strauss, Sr. Gallery
Arthur Dove was a leading American Modernist in the first half of the twentieth century. He painted pure abstraction long before many of his colleagues. Drawn from the collection of the Arkansas Arts Center, this focused installation will feature approximately 30 works in watercolor, gouache and oil. Accompanying works will explain Dove’s approach to painting, his role in American Modernism and his place in the history of art.
