Dr. Rita Freed will discuss how famed archaeologist George A. Reisner uncovered the Egyptian treasures that make up the Egyptian Collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The MFA is home to one of the finest Egyptian collections in the world, as a result of nearly 40 years of archaeological excavation (1905-1942) and the generosity of the Egyptian government. Freed will recount the history of those excavations and place some of the collection’s most important objects in their archaeological context. Freed has served as the John F. Cogan, Jr. and Mary L. Cornille Chair for Art of the Ancient World at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, since 1989 and was the curator for the City of Memphis’ Ramesses the Great exhibition, a loan from the Cairo Museum. Tickets: $5 General Public; Free for Members. Call 501-372-4000 for tickets.
