Professor of Egyptology at the American University in Cairo Dr. Salima Ikram will explore the history of mummies in the post-Pharaonic era as well as how the ancient Egyptians mummified their dead. Dr. Ikram will discuss the purpose and process of mummification and the history of the use and abuse of mummies in modern times. An author of several books and articles, Dr. Ikram’s primary research interests are death, daily life, experimental archaeology and the preservation and presentation of cultural heritage.
