Conversation with Todd Hoyer & Hayley Smith
Sunday, April 18, 2010
· 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Arkansas Arts Center Lower Lobby and Lecture Hall
The Friends of Contemporary Craft present a “Conversation” with wood artists Todd Hoyer and Hayley Smith. Hoyer and Smith create lathe turned objects that are, in a sense, a reaction to the wood itself. Smith, a self-declared Dremel® Queen, creates detailed embellishments on her works that function as a dialogue between the natural formations of the wood and her design. Hoyer describes his work as a reflection of the changes in his life; each piece being a visual representation of his life’s narrative. Hoyer and Smith do create collaborative works and each artist is represented in the Arkansas Arts Center’s permanent collection. Tickets are $15 for FOCC members and $20 for non-members. A light dinner will be served after the lecture. Reservations are required, and should be made by no later than April 9. For more information and to make reservations, please contact Caroline Brown at 501-396-0357 or by email at FOCC@arkarts.com.
