Art and the Written Word Teacher Academy will inspire, reinvigorate and bring out the creativity in both the educator and the student! Poets have long been inspired by images, and artists have long been inspired by poetry. This workshop teaches educators how to introduce students to a variety of language arts "tools" and poetic forms and create connections to works of art. Students will use images to inspire their poetry experimenting with different forms, meters and language. Students create original poetry and translate it visually through exploration of various periods in art history. Students will use the collections at the Arkansas Arts Center as their point of inspiration in creating "ekphrastic" poetry. In addition to field trips, students can participate in a school competition with selected students participating in a juried Poetry Slam on April 30, 2011. Teachers can earn 6 professional development credits for attending this workshop. Cost is $60, and lunch is provided. To Register, click on the Art Classes link to the left. Use the Art Class registration form and enter the name and date of the academy in the Class Code Box. For more information, call 501-372-4000.
