Lesson Objective: students will understand that anything can be a material for creating art; students will create their own sculpture from found objects.

Have students bring in the following materials from around their house:
Cardboard - old cereal boxes, toilet paper inner tubes, etc
Pipe cleaners or wire
Dowels
Buttons

You will also need:
Glue or hot glue

Many artists today work with materials that were manufactured for another purpose.
These kinds of materials are called "found objects".

(Visit http://www.judyonofrio.com/main.htm for the work of Judy Onofrio, a prolific found object artist.) These materials are not only readily available; they push an artist's creativity to see the objects in a new way and to utilize them in an original fashion. Using cardboard and found objects have your students construct an artistic bug.
