Arkansas Arts Center announces Tell-A-Tale Troupe season schedule
(LITTLE ROCK, AR) -
The Arkansas Arts Center announces the Tell-A-Tale Troupe's 2003-2004 season schedule. The season includes three traveling theatre productions: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Legend of John Henry and How to do Homework Without Throwing Up.
The opening performance, Snow White, runs from October 13 through December 19, 2003. The story of the girl, the looking glass, the evil step-mother, the kind dwarfs and the rescue by the handsome prince is adapted from the Grimms' classic fairy tale.
The following production, The Legend of John Henry, runs from February 2 through March 12, 2004. This folk legend follows the heroic struggle of John Henry and teaches the importance of respecting all people while recognizing the challenges that people face daily.
How to do Homework Without Throwing Up concludes the season. Trevor Romain's contemporary story offers witty insights to teach important truths about homework and strategies for getting it done. This production is a tongue-in-cheek approach to a serious subject. The production runs March 22 through May 11, 2004.
The Tell-A-Tale Troup travels throughout the state bringing professional productions of contemporary and classic literature to schools and communities. Ned Metcalf, state services manager at the Arkansas Arts Center, said, "With the help of civic organizations, youth in Arkansas are able to experience additional educational opportunities that are not always available to them through the school curriculum. The Arkansas Arts Center's touring programs - consisting of a professional children's theatre; the Artmobile, a mobile art gallery; and traveling exhibitions - reach over 160,000 Arkansans each year. Our goal is to provide an enriching arts experience to many schools across the state." Metcalf also said that sponsoring the Tell-A-Tale Troupe is the perfect opportunity for businesses and Parent Teacher Organizations to assist area schools.
