The Legend of Sleepy Hollow opens at Arkansas Arts Center on October 24
(LITTLE ROCK, AR) -
The Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre presents "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" on October 24, 2003, at the Arkansas Arts Center, 9th and Commerce.
Adapted for stage by Fred Gaines is Washington Irving's frightful tale of haughtiness, heartache and headless horsemen. Schoolmaster Ichabod Crane is new to Sleepy Hollow and dismisses the towns' belief in the supernatural, despite the strange sounds and mysterious happenings that seem to follow him. Rejecting the neighborhood tales and twilight superstitions, he turns his attention to Katrina Van Tassel, the village beauty. Katrina is also being courted by the local woodsman - and bully, Brom Van Brunt. The rivalry between the two men comes to a close on the night of the Halloween Frolic when Katrina declares her love for Brom Van Brunt. Unhappily, Ichabod Crane begins his fateful ride home - a ride that will be remembered and recounted for generations to come in the village of Sleepy Hollow.
"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," is both a ghost story and historical fiction. Set in the 1800s, it tells a lot about what life was like at that time. It also contains the elements of a ghost story - a supernatural visitor with a bad attitude out to harm the living. Ghost stories are one of the oldest kind of stories around.
The cast of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," directed by Bradley Anderson, includes: Justen Balay, Ben Fish, Max Hill and Dustin Smith as School Boys; Logan Bost, Becky Knox, Bobbi Monroe, Jake Nevrla, Pamela Osborn and Kevin Smith as Townspeople; Cortney Dorsey, Rachel Rutherford and Taryn Thompson as School Girls; Heather Dupree as Widow Winetraub; Thomas Hankins as Brom Van Brunt; Phillip McMath as Ichabod Crane; Chris Pappas and Adam Reid as Brom's Boys; Tilman Ross as Cornwall; LeAnn Smoot-Waddle as Hilda; and Sara Wyatt as Katrina
"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow " will run through November 9, 2003. Additional plays this season include "Visions of Sugarplums, " "How To Do Homework Without Throwing Up," "Animal Farm," "The Adventures of Peter Rabbit" and "Pinocchio."
