Visions of Sugarplums opens at Arkansas Arts Center on December 5

(LITTLE ROCK, AR) - The Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre presents "Visions of Sugarplums" on December 5, 2003, at the Arkansas Arts Center, 9th and Commerce.

An original screenplay by Alan Keith Smith, Visions of Sugarplums takes place among the Christmas music and mayhem in the Carlson home. Mom is busy decorating the house, Dad and Grandpa are discussing their favorite holiday movies and young Abbie is sulking about her dismal performance in the Nutcracker ballet. It is not until the Carlson family falls fast asleep that a Christmas Eve of madcap magic and sugarplum dreams begins to take place and Abbie reclaims her Christmas spirit.

This production is a comedy. It makes use of humor, including exaggeration and juxtaposition. The absurd - things that are too big, too small, too fast, too slow or don't usually go together - is a prevalent characteristic of this play.

The cast of "Visions of Sugarplums," directed by Bradley Anderson, includes: Pamela Adam as the Young Woman; Sky Cardwell, Samantha Davis, Mary Margaret Donavan, Phillip McMath, Kayla Newton, Leann Smoot-Waddle and Naomi Warren as Elves; Amy Dorsey as Kristen; Thomas Hankins as James; Carrie Hunter as Abbie; John Isner as Billie; Conner Pearce as Rusty; Jeremiah Smith as the Prince; and Sara Wyatt as Jen.

"Visions of Sugarplums " will run through December 21, 2003. Additional plays this season include "How To Do Homework Without Throwing Up," "Animal Farm," "The Adventures of Peter Rabbit" and "Pinocchio."

Individual tickets are $8.25 and $7.25 for seniors. Four-play packages are $30 per person. To reserve tickets, call the Arkansas Arts Center at 501-372-4000.
