FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ninth National Drawing Invitational to open on January 16

(LITTLE ROCK, AR) - The ninth National Drawing Invitational will be on display at the Arkansas Arts Center from Friday, January 16 to Sunday, February 29, 2004.

Over 60 works by 11 extraordinary draftsmen will be featured in this exhibition. The works, while varying in technique, size and medium, concentrate on the artists' perception of their environment.

This Arkansas Arts Center tradition focuses on bringing together the work of living American artists, both well-known and under-recognized; exhibiting and publishing significant, current examples of drawing as a medium; reaffirming the Arkansas Arts Center's leadership in the promotion and study of drawing; and stimulating and encouraging the collecting of drawings.

Brian Young, curator of art, states, "Since 1986 the National Drawing Invitational has been a chance for our audience to familiarize themselves with some of the extraordinary trends in contemporary draftsmanship."

The National Drawing Invitational features works by Mark Bennett, Suzanne Bocanegra, John Buck, Robert Cottingham, Russell Crotty, Roy De Forest, Roland Flexner, Yvonne Jacquette, Danica Phelps, Mario Robinson and Susan Schwalb.

Admission is free. For more information, call 501-372-4000.
