FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Docent volunteer opportunities at Arkansas Arts Center
(LITTLE ROCK, AR) -
The Arkansas Arts Center is seeking docent volunteers to serve as exhibition tour guides for school groups and civic organizations.
To prepare docents, the Arkansas Art Center is offering a free training course in Art History. The training will be held on Mondays, February 9 through March 29, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Arts Center. A one-year commitment is required of all new docents.
The Art History training will cover Renaissance artists such as Leonardo da Vinci to Abstract Expressionists such as Jackson Pollock. Also, much of the training will focus on the Art Center collection.
Curator of Education, Erin Branham, said, "Serving as a docent is one of the most challenging and invigorating volunteer jobs anyone can have. Besides the constant education in art history, trips to tour other museums and special lectures by artists and curators, docents experience the extraordinary pleasures of sharing their knowledge with students of all ages. Each docent takes one three-hour tour shift a week. Arts Center docents reach approximately 7000 visitors a year. Bringing people closer to art has rewards you cannot imagine until you've done it."
Following the training, docents are prepared to lead exhibition tours. Exhibition tours are scheduled by request and held Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
No experience is necessary to volunteer. For more information or to register for training, call Erin Branham at 501-396-0367.
