FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Arkansas Arts Center FOCC Announces Conversation Series
(LITTLE ROCK, AR) -
The Arkansas Arts Center Friends of Contemporary Craft is pleased to announce its 2004-2005 Conversation Series.
The series introduces people to notable artists within the various fields of contemporary craft. Each of the four lectures cover different aspects and techniques of the artists' particular medium. The season opens with a discussion by basket maker John Garrett on September 19, 2004. Garrett's colorful geometric constructions make reference to screens, fences, lattices and the grid patterns of city streets and high-rise buildings. Carol Eckert, fiber artist, will be featured on December 5, 2004. Eckert uses coiling, an ancient basketry technique, to construct contemporary figurative vessels and staffs. Jewelry/metal weaver, Arline Fisch, who pioneered the use of textile techniques - weaving, knitting, crochet and braiding - to make metal act like cloth, will host the February 5, 2005 Conversation. The series will end with blacksmith Tom Joyce on May 14, 2005. Joyce's works are forged from pieces he collects, integrating parts of the past into the present.
All Conversations are held in the Arkansas Arts Center Lower Lobby, 9th and Commerce, at 6 p.m. A light dinner is served. Admission is $15. For more information, call 501-396-0357.
