Fine Arts Club to host "The Art of Wearing Art"

(LITTLE ROCK, AR) - The Fine Arts Club of Arkansas opens its program season on Wednesday, September 8, 2004, with the lecture "The Art of Wearing Art."

Guest speaker and leading authority on contemporary jewelry, Charon Kransen, owner of Charon Kransen Art in New York City, will discuss the world of contemporary wearable art and the use of non-traditional materials. He will also focus on highly personal expressions and collectable pieces.

Kransen has worked in the field of contemporary jewelry since 1969 and is currently an art dealer and agent representing over 150 contemporary jewelry artists worldwide. He has shown the work of these artists at the Chicago Art Fair SOFA, the New York Art Fair SOFA, the International Art + Design Fair in New York, the Art Form Fair in Palm Beach and the Palm Beach Contemporary Art Fair for the past ten years.

Formally trained as a jeweler, Kransen has worked as a professor of Jewelry Design at the University of Utrecht Holland, as head of the jewelry and enamel department at the Art College in Amersfoort Holland, as president of the VES (Dutch Jewelry Designers Organization) and as a lecturer at universities, colleges and art organizations all over the world.

The program will begin with coffee in the Arkansas Arts Center Atrium at 10 a.m. followed by the lecture and a jewelry preview in the Children's Theater at 10:30 a.m. After the lecture, there will be a luncheon and jewelry fashion show in the Atrium. Tickets for the lecture and luncheon are $30. Tickets to the lecture and coffee only are $10. To make reservations, call 501-396-0351.
