FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Glass sculpture by Richard Jolley to be exhibited at Arkansas Arts Center
(LITTLE ROCK, AR) -
“Richard Jolley: Glass Sculptor” opens on Friday, April 29, 2005 in the Sam Strauss Sr. Gallery at the Arkansas Arts Center.
The exhibition highlights the bold and intricate works of one of this country’s leading glass sculptors. It features the boldly modeled glass sculptures for which he is best known, along with Jolley’s most current work in both glass and drawings on paper.
Arkansas Arts Center Curator of Contemporary Craft, Anne Gochenour said, “Glass is a unique material. It is a flowing liquid at high temperatures and becomes a rigid solid as it cools. This makes it an exacting medium for artistic expression. Richard Jolley has struck a balance in his use of this material to excite the eye and express concepts and meaning. This exhibition features a number of his latest works in glass and large-scale drawings.”
Jolley is represented in many public collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, New York; the Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans; the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum; the International Glasmuseum, Ebeltsoft, Denmark; and the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, Sapporo, Japan.
