FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Arkansas Arts Center Studio Series performance is "Off The Wall"
(LITTLE ROCK, AR) -
The final production of the Arkansas Arts Center Studio Series, "Off The Wall," opens on Thursday, May 19 and runs through Thursday, May 26, 2005.
This performance will take the work of master, multi-media pop artist Red Grooms off the Arkansas Arts Center walls and onto the stage for an energetic interpretation of his compositions. The play, which will focus on four of Grooms' paintings from his "No Gas Suite," captures the vibrant and chaotic energy of urban life and the humor of human nature.
Grooms is an internationally recognized painter, sculptor, printmaker, filmmaker and theatrical showman. His irreverent images provide a glimpse of society's fascination with sports, fame and commerce and are populated with colorful characters of every ethnicity, age and walk of life.
Director and North Little Rock native Jeremy Williams states, "Grooms' characters are wildly imaginative and the Arts Center cast is bringing them to life by exploring their stories as well as how they relate to other characters and environments the artist created. Instead of presenting personal narratives, we are exploring their multi-faceted personalities and activities; looking at what's under the paint and what makes the works so interesting."
The ensemble cast of "Off The Wall" includes: Hannah Blackburn-Parrish, Erin Herden, Adam Reid, Alex Speer, Rachel Stephens and Kat Young.
Individual tickets are $14. To purchase tickets, call the Arkansas Arts Center at 501-372-4000.
