FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Arkansas Arts Center presents the 10th National Drawing Invitational Symposium
(LITTLE ROCK, AR) -
To accompany the 10th National Drawing Invitational, the Arkansas Arts Center will host a Drawing Symposium on Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at 6:30 p.m. following a reception at 6:00 p.m. in the Arkansas Arts Center Lecture Hall.
Internationally recognized for its exquisite collection of unique works on paper, the Arkansas Arts Center will gather expertise from all areas of the art world - an artist, an art dealer and a curator- to reflect on the art of drawing in modern society in a panel discussion. Following the panel discussion, audience members will be able to ask each art expert questions, creating a wonderful exchange of ideas and information that will lead to a better understanding of drawing as an art form.
With the expertise of Valerie McKenzie, art dealer from McKenzie Fine Art in New York, Skip Steinworth, artist from San Francisco, and Brian Young, curator of art at the Arkansas Arts Center and of the 10th Annual National Drawing Invitational, the symposium will provide a unique look at the state of contemporary drawing in America. The panel of experts will discuss whether drawing as a category is still valid or if works on paper have become so diverse that it is more accurate simply to call them art. Moderated by Curator of Education Erin Branham, the symposium will also discuss what aspects of drawings are attracting the attention of artists and collectors.
The 10th National Drawing Invitational will be on display in the Townsend Wolfe Gallery during the Drawing Symposium from October 21 through November 31, 2005. Centering on a loosely based theme of attention to detail, Curator of Art Brian Young invited artists from all backgrounds to contribute to the exhibition.
The perfect compliment to the 10th National Drawing Invitational, the Drawing Symposium will give insight on how drawing evolved into the art form that it is today.
