The Elizabeth Prewitt Taylor Library at the Arkansas Arts Center is a non-circulating research library. Established in 1963, the library is the primary center for the history and documentation of art in the state. Library services are available to the Arts Center's staff, docent volunteers, members and the public. For a brief history of the library, click here.

COLLECTIONS
The Library collections include materials on art criticism and art history. Through the generosity of the Central Arkansas Library System, our card catalog is now available online. The collections are accessible through the online catalog, card files and other indexes, and with library staff assistance.

SERVICES
The Taylor Library provides the following services:

  • Research assistance to visitors
  • Telephone reference, brief biographical information provided at (501) 396-0341
  • Referral to additional resources
  • Photocopying services (copies $.15 and $.25 depending upon size)

SEARCH THE CATALOG
Now you can search the Arkansas Arts Center's Library holdings online as a result of our partnership with the Central Arkansas Library System. Your search will also show holdings of all the Central Arkansas Library System branches. Arts Center library holdings are continually being added. The online catalog currently includes only the book collection. Periodicals and other materials will be added in the future.

Remember that the Taylor Library does not lend out its holdings. You may visit the library during its public hours to use its resources.

LIBRARY HOURS

  • Tuesday 10 am - 2 pm
  • Wednesday 10 am - 2 pm
  • Thursday 10 am - 2 pm

BOOKS
5,000 volumes of dictionaries, indexes, monographs, catalogs raisonnés, and exhibition catalogs. These can be accessed through the Central Arkansas Library System online catalog.

VERTICAL FILES

  • Artist catalogs - exhibition catalogs from museums, private and corporate collections and commercial galleries representing thousands of artists
  • Artist files - clippings and pamphlets for artists represented in the Arkansas Arts Center collection, as well as some files for Arkansas Artists

PERIODICALS

  • Over 50 current titles of art periodicals
  • Art Index print version from 1932 to present

AUCTION CATALOGS

  • Selected sale catalogs from Sotheby's (1971 to present) and Christie's (1979 to present)
