No other museum in the United States (or beyond) has linked poetry to the collection in this way! The Ekphrastic Poetry Slam is a competition of written
poetry about pieces in the Arkansas Arts Center’s collection performed by poetry artists. Click here for information on this year's Ekphrastic Slam.
Experience the art of the spoken word! Rocktown Slam happens every second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. Poet entry fee is $10, and admission is free for AAC members and $5 for non-members. Fees may be paid at the door. Call 501-541-0681 for more information or follow Rocktown Slam on Facebook. Audience members should be aware that poems and performances may contain adult-oriented themes and may include language that might be considered objectionable or offensive.
ART OF MOTION: TANGO
Enjoy a beautiful evening of dance. Dance lessons led by local and national instructors begin at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month. After the lesson, guests are able to practice their new moves and dance the night away. No partner is needed, just the enthusiasm to enjoy a new arts experience!
Admission is free for Arkansas Arts Center Members and $10 for non-members.
The Arkansas Arts Center presents lectures designed for those who seek educational art experiences. Given by scholars, artists, teachers and curators, lectures are held in conjunction with special exhibitions and offer additional information and insight into the artwork on view. The 2013-2014 Lecture Series is presented by The Fine Arts Club of Arkansas. Click here to purchase tickets to upcoming lectures.
Family Festivals are designed to create an environment for interaction between children and parents with the art in our galleries as the catalyst. Hands-on art-making, demonstrations and performances give families memorable and meaningful experiences. Family Festivals engage participants with the Arkansas Arts Center and its programs. Click here to purchase tickets to upcoming Family Festivals.
Teacher Academies provide educators an intensive curriculum with content materials, lesson plans and classroom materials, earning educators six hours of professional development. The workshops are also key connectors to multiple classroom curricula. Educators attend workshops at the Arkansas Arts Center or invite the Director of Education to their site.
