Selections from the Arkansas Arts Center Foundation Collection
Taken from the Arts Center's permanent collection of more than 200 prints by master printmaker Evan Lindquist, this exhibition will showcase the talent and energy of this former Arkansas State University Professor of Art. A director of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York once remarked on Lindquist's work, "It is absolutely wild, witty and incredibly skillful." The twenty-four images included in this exhibition will range from the energetic abstractions to surreal figures to a naturally depicted rabbit.
Beginning in 1963, Lindquist integrated printmaking into the curriculum at ASU in Jonesboro. As such, he is highly respected as a printmaker. His work currently resides in collections such as the Uffizi (Florence, Italy), the Nelson-Atkins (Kansas City), the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), the St. Louis Art Museum, the Brooks Museum (Memphis) and the Achenbach Foundation (San Francisco). It is also worth noting that his prints could be found in public and private collections in every state by 1980.
