SUGGESTED SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate to Advanced Technique
~
Evolve beyond your schematic previsions and muscle memory with this drawing workshop. Learn how to leave your comfort zone and develop your work in new ways. In this two-part workshop, David will help show you how to break down your process, examine your usual conventions of execution and put it all back together in a single large-scale drawing.

This is a drop-in class. Registration not required. $20 per session, paid at the door. CASH ONLY. Draw or paint from a live model. No formal instruction provided; instructor is present to coordinate class and model only. Admission fee includes model fees.

PREREQUISITE: Basic drawing skills
~
Learn the art of storytelling in the comic book format. Discover the different types of page formats, panel formats, and flow that a comic book page requires for strong storytelling. Learn how to thumbnail out the story from an existing script and develop your own page from your thumbnails.

John's work has appeared in funny books published by D.C., Marvel, Dark Horse, Ad House, and Top Cow. He has illustrated many different characters and titles, including Deadpool, X-Men, Batman, Superman, Aliens vs Predator, and Conan the Barbarian.

LITTLE OR NO DRAWING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

Guided exercises teach students how to see the basic shapes that are inherent in every object. Learn to use line, value, composition, and illusion of depth in an image. Explore different drawing materials.

Learn to combine all drawing elements into more polished drawings. Continue working from still lifes; as well as, learning human form basics. Discuss sketchbook routines and practices, critique, and how to dissect finished work.

Learn the basics of drawing the human form using graphite, charcoal, and ink. Discover the fundamentals of rendering the figure with line and value, gesture drawing, and how to maintain proper proportions. Class includes discussion of the figure in art throughout history; as well as, working from the live model. Tuition includes model fees.

Designed to help drawing students begin to learn how to create work on their own, with instructor guidance. Each student creates a course of action that includes overarching concept, number of drawings, materials, and other details. Includes one-on-one guidance and group critiques.

Learn the art of sketching in an urban environment! Express the energy and movement inherent to an urban space. Learn how to speed up your drawing and capture information quickly. Class occurs off-site in downtown Little Rock and also includes two critique sessions at the AAC.
